From there, you’ll begin your journey with a scenic transfer to our lodge, located just 9 kilometers from the city, nestled along the Tambopata River. Once at the lodge, enjoy a refreshing juice made from local Amazonian fruits, followed by check-in and orientation. To start connecting with the rainforest, we’ll take you on a gentle introductory walk through the surrounding jungle trails, where first encounters with tropical birds and jungle sounds await.

As the day transitions into evening, we’ll embark on a rustic boat ride along the Tambopata River, a perfect opportunity to spot herons, toucans, and possibly a family of capybaras resting near the water’s edge. Then comes one of the highlights of the day: witnessing the Amazon sunset, where the sky reflects vivid oranges and purples across the mirror-like river. Once darkness settles, we activate our flashlights to search for white caimans gliding silently along the banks. With luck, we’ll approach them for an up-close observation before returning to the lodge for a well-earned dinner and rest.

Day 2

Lake Sandoval Tour from Puerto Maldonado – Wildlife Canoe Trip in Tambopata Reserve

tambopata jungle tourAfter breakfast, we begin a remarkable journey into the heart of the Tambopata National Reserve. Aboard our motorized canoe, we navigate the river for approximately one hour, observing riverbank vegetation and possible early wildlife activity along the way. Upon arrival at the checkpoint, we start a 40-minute guided hike through untouched primary rainforest, where your guide will interpret the surrounding ecosystem—highlighting giant trees, tropical birds, and medicinal plants.

Arriving at the shores of Lake Sandoval, we switch to a silent paddle canoe, ideal for wildlife observation. As we glide across the still waters, we search for some of the lake’s most iconic residents: giant river otters, black caimans, howler monkeys, and colorful birds like hoatzins and herons. The lake’s mirror-like surface and jungle backdrop create the perfect setting for photography and nature appreciation.

Around midday, we pause at a designated resting point to enjoy a traditional jungle lunch, prepared with fresh local ingredients. After a final round of wildlife spotting and peaceful paddling, we begin our return journey—retracing our steps through the forest and boarding the boat back to the lodge.

Dinner is served in the evening, offering a chance to reflect on the day’s sightings and relax in the comfort of the jungle lodge, surrounded by the sounds of the rainforest.

Day X

Parrot Clay Lick Tour – Early Morning Birdwatching near Puerto Maldonado

puerto maldonado amazon toursWe rise early, well before sunrise, to embark on one of the most magical moments of the journey: a visit to a parrot clay lick, located a short distance from the lodge. As the jungle awakens, we position ourselves at a safe and respectful distance to observe dozens of parrots and parakeets gathering at the clay wall. This striking display of color and sound is not only visually captivating but also essential to the birds’ health, as the mineral-rich clay helps them neutralize toxins in their diet.

This natural ritual is a favorite among birdwatchers and wildlife photographers, offering the chance to witness species like mealy parrots, blue-headed parrots, and Dusky-headed parakeets in their natural behavior under the soft golden light of dawn.

After returning to the lodge, we enjoy a final Amazonian breakfast, followed by time to rest or prepare luggage.
